Our Valentine

Filed under: The Wonderful World of Food — 4:32 pm

Alan: can I tell you something?
Kiki: yup
Alan: i think i’m falling for bob’s red mill
Kiki: OH MY GOD!
Kiki: I AM TOO!
Alan: i made Buttermilk Whole Wheat Waffles this morning
Alan: except i replaced buttermilk with yogurt
Alan: it’s so great to be able to look up a recipe, and make it
Alan: not have to go out and buy ingredients
Kiki: YESTERDAY I was looking at his display
Kiki: and i told my mom with a LOT of enthusiasm, “I LOVE bob’s red mill”
Kiki: and then I held a package of oat bran
Kiki: and i smiled down at his face
Kiki: and stroked his cheek with my finger
Kiki: NO EXAGGERATION
Alan: the waffles were quite delicious
Alan: I have some left over that tomorrow I’m going to try blueberry waffles
Alan: but, so far, everything I have made with bob’s stuff has been pretty awesome

There’s a new man in our lives. He’s a bit older than us, but we both love him like the moon loves the sun, like peanut butter loves jelly, and like Kiki loves unicorns. This isn’t some crush, some silly infatuation. This is the kind of love that lasts a lifetime. His name is Bob, and he is fabulous.

I love how he sells every grain imaginable, including those beyond imagination. Amaranth? Kamut? Groats? He’s got it! Some of the stuff he sells, I’ve never even heard of. I love that everything comes in simple plastic bags. I love his no-nonsense grocery displays, and I’ve come to judge a grocery store’s quality on the number of his products it carries. I even love his logo.

I have his ground flax seeds, his wheatberries, his muesli, and his wheat germ (which is killer on yogurt!). For Christmas I asked for his EXTRA THICK ROLLED OATS (!!!). I’m saving them for a special occasion, because that’s how excited they make me. I’m probably going to buy his oat bran.

I love his hat. His kind eyes. His serious glasses. I really love that he wears a bolo tie.

Up until now, I’ve kept my love for Bob a secret, because I didn’t want Alan to get jealous. But now that I know he loves him too, I want to shout it from the rooftops!

I LOVE BOB’S RED MILL!
